Automatic Transmission Failure in Your MINIPosted on: June 20, 2019
The MINI’s compact design and high performance make it fun to drive. It is a great vehicle to own, and it is a highly sought after automobile. Keeping up with your regular maintenance schedule is critical to keep it running properly and safely. Even though they are known for their reliability, they still have transmission problems when they are not properly taken care of.
What causes transmission failure?
As a vehicle ages, it experiences wear from high mileage. During regular maintenance, your mechanic will be able to make sure that the transmission isn’t experiencing any failures. They will also be able to check the level of your transmission fluid making sure that you do not have a leak.
Symptoms of a Failing Transmission
If you notice any of the following symptoms, bring your MINI into our European Auto Service Center. We will perform a diagnostic check so that we can get your car fixed before any additional damage is incurred.
Leaking Transmission Fluid: If you notice a leak under your car, you can distinguish if it is transmission fluid by its deep reddish color. The leak usually occurs near the front of the vehicle. If there is a leak, it is important that you have it fixed right away before any additional damage occurs.
Low Transmission Fluid: You may not always notice that you have a leak. Having your transmission fluid level checked is very important. The fluid is vital in keeping your transmission components lubricated and cool. If the fluid level is low there will not be enough to keep your transmission running properly leading to transmission failure.
Vibrations: Intense vibrations and shaking can be a sign of a failing transmission. These vibrations can usually be noticed when you are accelerating.
Overheating: Once your transmission begins to fail, it adds stress on the engine. This will cause your engine to overheat leading to additional failures.
Trouble Shifting Between Gears: The most prominent issue noticed with a failing transmission is trouble shifting. Your vehicle may hesitate when it is changing gears or it may experience intense jolts.
Check Engine Light: If the check engine light in your MINI illuminates, have one of our highly skilled mechanics perform a diagnostic scan. There are many issues that can cause your check engine light to come on. It can be something small or something major, like a failing transmission.
Don’t Ignore the Symptoms
The transmission in your MINI has a major impact on the way your car feel and drives. It can be scary as well as costly to have your transmission fail. You may not personally notice any issues before the complete failure occurs, that is why it is so important that you have a trusted mechanic perform regular checkups.
If you do begin to notice any of the above-mentioned symptoms, they should never be ignored. Dealing with the problem quickly and early can save you time and money in the long run. Continuing to drive your MINI with a failing transmission could leave you stranded or cause you to have an accident.
